A champion is sinking in the middle of the table, getting in touch with the relegation battle! It’s hard to believe what’s happening to Young Boys Bern in the Super League, but the fans don’t want to look at it anymore.
On Wednesday, the yellow-and-blacks have to find a way out of the crisis at home, and lo and behold, they are still favorites. In my Young Boys FC Basel betting tip, I want to find out the reasons for the crisis and also tell you what moved me to bet on Under 3.5 goals here.
Two wins from eleven rounds, six defeats, 20 goals conceded? It reads like the record of a team that goes into a season with the clear goal of “avoiding relegation”. And at the same time… It is exactly the record that the Young Boys from Bern have to show!
The defending champions are stumbling towards the abyss and cannot explain how this crash could happen. Just a few days ago, they suffered another defeat, losing 2-0 to Lugano.
Three defeats in the last four games, all without scoring. Whether it’s the offense, the defense, the game control or the passion, there is simply nothing right with the Swiss top team anymore.
It’s no wonder that everything was also lost in the Champions League (0-1 against Inter Milan, 0-5 against Barca and 0-3 against Aston Villa). Word has already got around that Bern have been reluctant to play away from home for quite some time.
2023/24, for example, the results from their own stadium were a safe bet, which is precisely why they managed to win the championship in the end. It’s just a shame that this season they’re no longer strong at home either.
The team has lost twice, drawn twice and won once, which is not even a distant memory of their former strong phases. Keeping a clean sheet? No chance, that’s not working at all this season!
At least: in the last three home games, they only conceded once. Worrying when we now have to praise it. In every home match, except for the 0-1 defeat to Grasshoppers, Bern took the lead.
If the yellow-and-blacks score the first goal in the game on Wednesday, you can get odds of 1.70 at Betano. Young Boys are still favored, despite the deep crisis.
The lead has shrunk, but it is still enough for an average of 2.05 to 3.15. What is the historical perspective, do you like playing against FC Basel? The first game this season was already lost 0-1.
But it’s worth noting that since May 2016, no home game against Basel has ended with zero points. The last home defeat in the first half of the season was ten years ago. But be careful: it was the twelfth match day, and that’s exactly what’s coming up this time!
What about the current form of FC Basel? Although they have also lost four times, they have also won three matches in a row in between – and the club is currently on a streak of just that.
After beating Young Boys 1-0 and St. Gallen 2-1, the Swiss FCB finished off FC Winterthur 6-1. The second time this season there were six goals, because the kickers also shot their way to victory in Geneva.
The away results: 2:3, 3:0, 6:0, 1:1, 0:1 and 6:1. Doesn’t add up? You’re right, but unfortunately I can’t explain why there’s such a fuss about it either! It rarely gets boring, but low-scoring games are also possible.
We beat Bern 3-0, so let’s take a quick look back at the history. For the first time since 2015/16, we could win twice in a row against the actual serial champions of the Super League!
At Young Boys Bern, the worm is in the team’s teeth, and in all parts of the team! The complete insecurity is throwing offense and defense off track, even the home strength is probably finally history.
At first glance, FC Basel is in very good shape, but: the first series of three wins has already been broken. There may be shooting festivals, but at the same time, even more dismal performances are quite possible.
