Now it’s official: Philipp Ziereis is leaving SpVgg Greuther Fürth and joining the Australian club Melbourne Victory. This was announced by the Central Franconian second division club on Friday morning. The 33-year-old central defender joined the Spielvereinigung last summer and played 34 competitive games for the Fürth cloverleaf, including relegation and the DFB Cup. Daniel Meyer, sporting director, revealed: “Philipp approached me in the past few days because he had the opportunity to move to Australia. Even before his transfer to Fürth, this was a topic that occupied him for a long time.” SpVgg had already given the player a promise in the course of his move to Fürth “to be allowed to move in the event of such a possibility”.
