A title will be awarded – far away from the big European clubs. In the CONCACAF region, Cruz Azul will face the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday night, as the Champions Cup needs a winner.
I have a clear favorite, based on both international experience and how the season has gone. In my Cruz Azul Vancouver Whitecaps prediction, I’ll tell you why I’m going for the “Double Chance 1X & Under 3.5 Goals” bet combination.
Cruz Azul – never heard of them and no idea where they are geographically? The journey takes us to Mexico, where the club is in the final for the fourth time since 2009. The catch: they have never won the title in that time.
The team celebrated once in 1997, and the desire for another trophy is great. Since the last final was eleven years ago, I’ll leave the history aside and focus on the here and now instead.
Cruz Azul has had a very confident run in the competition. Before the round of 16, they defeated Real Hope FA 2-0 and 5-0, and the round of 16 brought results of 0-0 and 4-1 against Seattle.
First a draw, then a win? Azul remained true to form. 0-0 and 2-1 against CF America and 0-0 and 1-0 against Tigres saw the Mexicans reach the final.
Interestingly, all three draws were away from home, followed by a win at home. The final is on Monday, but… Cruz Azul is very fortunate that the final will be played in their own stadium!
They have won all their home games in the current competition, conceding only two goals. I must also mention that the team has not conceded a goal in the first half and has led at half-time in three of four home games.

Cruz Azul has not yet gained any experience against the Vancouver Whitecaps, but has already played eight matches against teams from Canada. With five wins, two draws, and one defeat, the overall record is positive.

Of course, you can also bet on the Mexicans winning the Champions Cup, whether after 90 minutes, extra time or penalties. However, with odds of just 1.40, this bet is only of limited value.
A cup win for the Canadians from Vancouver, on the other hand, would earn you a much higher 3.10. This could primarily be due to the club’s lack of experience at the final stage.
The Whitecaps took part in the competition for the first time in 2015/16 and are now celebrating their first ever appearance in the final. Admittedly, many of their performances have not been particularly strong, with the club starting with a 1-2 defeat to Sarprissa.
A 2-0 win in the second leg saw them through to the round of 16, where Monterrey were knocked out with a 1-1 and 2-2 draw. Vancouver clearly enjoyed close games, as the quarter-finals saw identical results against UNAM Pumas.
The away goals rule helped the Whitecaps twice. In the semifinals, they finally faced Inter Miami. They made short work of Messi’s club, winning 2-0 and 3-1, and ultimately deserved their ticket to the final.
Interesting: The team went into the break trailing three times, but managed to avoid defeat each time. Three goals in the first half, eleven in the second?
It could well be that this trend continues. In that case, it would be an option for you to bet on Vancouver scoring in the second half at Betano. The odds would be a strong 2.45.

It was mainly their home games that brought them closer to this final. Although they have lost the last three Champions Cup finals, they now face an opponent who is playing for the title for the first time ever.
