For 1. FC Köln, the clear goal for the 2026/27 season is to re-establish itself in the Bundesliga after narrowly staying in the league. A shaky season like the last one should be avoided at all costs. The focus is on more stability.
However, defensive vulnerability remains an issue. In the first competitive game of the new season, in the 2-1 win in the DFB Cup in Würzburg, the team conceded another goal. Strengthening the defence will be the main task for coach Wagner.
After all, the offense at home was productive. In the home games, the goats scored 30 goals, but also conceded 30 goals. As a result, goals were scored on both sides in an impressive 88 percent of all Cologne home games.
