At the end of the first Bundesliga matchday of the new season, I provide you with my Augsburg Schalke tip. The Royal Blues are finally back in the top flight and want to show right away that they have come to stay. But a tricky task awaits in Augsburg.
I took a closer look at the odds and found an interesting option. My main tip is that Anton Kade will score a goal, there are strong odds of 3.30 for this, which I think is absolutely playable. After all, he was already successful in the cup!
Kade was one of the most active attacking forces at FCA last season and impressed with the most shots on target per 90 minutes. Given his current form and the fact that Augsburg goes into the game as favorites, I definitely see value for your bets here.
It is the first league game for both teams, but they have already played their first competitive games in the DFB Cup. Augsburg won 2-0 against Cottbus, while Schalke struggled to a 5-2 win after extra time against Halle, which points to defensive gaps.
Meanwhile, a quick look at the Augsburg Schalke odds shows that the home side go into the game as favourites late in the afternoon on Sunday. Nevertheless, no old or new betting provider excludes a different outcome. So it’s going to be a tight box!
Of course, Edin Dzeko is particularly in focus at Schalke. He could play his first Bundesliga game in over 15 years. That would be a memorable moment that would go down in the history of the league and would be a highlight for many fans.

In addition to my bet on a Kade booth, I have analyzed other interesting Augsburg Schalke bets for you. A bet on Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.70 seems promising. At least three goals have been scored in five of the last seven direct duels.
In addition, 62% of Augsburg’s league games last season ended with over 2.5 goals. The most recent cup games of both teams were also relatively high-scoring. The odds of 1.66 at Oddset for this scenario are therefore a solid option for your bet slip.
Another consideration is the home win for Augsburg. The Fuggerstädters have lost only one of their last twelve home games in the Bundesliga and were extremely strong, especially at the end of last season. The odds of 2.15 therefore have their appeal.

However, it gets interesting when analysing the Augsburg Schalke betting odds. A tie, which our tool sees with a 22.6% probability, could be worth it. The odds of 3.60 for a draw are worth considering, as I have a good gut feeling about it.

In terms of expected goals, Augsburg is also ahead of Schalke with 1.76 goals, for whom the tool predicts 1.26 goals. The total number of expected goals is thus 3.01, which further underpins the already presented bet on Over 2.5 goals and makes it attractive.
Since I expect a rather cautious start, the bet on a draw at half-time at odds of 2.20 also seems promising. Both teams are unlikely to take full risks from the start and will want to feel each other out first.
Another option that builds on this, so to speak, is the highest-scoring half: 2nd half at odds of 1.90. This also reflects my own expectations that after a rather uneventful first half of the game, the scoring chances could pile up.
The best odds for Augsburg vs. Schalke
The odds distribution for the outcome of the match is quite clear. Augsburg goes into the race as favourites, which is understandable in view of last season’s strong second half of the season and the home advantage. A victory for the Fuggerstädter is therefore the most likely scenario with 2.20.
Schalke is of course the underdog as a promoted team, but the Royal Blues should not be underestimated. The euphoria of the return to the Bundesliga can release strength. An away win would be a surprise, but is not completely out of the question.
A draw seems like a more realistic option. For Schalke, an away point at the start would be a complete success anyway and a strong signal, which is why the 3.65 traded on the markets could be quite interesting for you sports betting fans.
In addition, Augsburg shared the points at home several times last season, namely in six of the last twelve games.
Augsburg vs Schalke Match Analysis:
For Augsburg, this season is about taking the next step and establishing themselves in the midfield of the league after a successful 2025/26 season. An opening win against a promoted team like Schalke would be the perfect basis for this and would underline the club’s ambitions.
Schalke, on the other hand, wants to prove after a long abstinence that the club is fit for the first division again. After disappointing away games in the past, a sense of achievement away from home at the start would be worth its weight in gold to regain self-confidence.
However, Augsburg’s strong form at the end of last season is an important factor for me. Only four teams scored more points in the second half of the 2025/26 season. The hosts want to take this momentum with them and control the game from the first minute.
I expect FCA to have more possession, but the Schalke defence won’t be so easy to crack. There could be a lot going on in midfield, as neither team wants to risk too much from the start to avoid mistakes.
Schalke, meanwhile, is known for winning the ball far from their own goal. No team in the German professional leagues had a higher average distance to their own goal when winning the ball last season. That speaks for a well-organised defence.
So it could develop into a classic game in which the first goal could be a bit long in coming. Due to their experience and recent form, I see Augsburg as having a slight advantage here. Especially since FCA have always avoided an opening defeat in the last three seasons.
Augsburg Form Check
The 2025/26 season could have lasted even longer for Augsburg, as Manuel Baum’s team became stronger and stronger towards the end. In the second half of the season, FCA collected almost twice as many points as in the entire first half of the season.
This positive trend is now to be continued. In the DFB Cup, there was already a sovereign 2-0 victory against Energie Cottbus, in which Anton Kade was once again able to prove his class and entered his name directly on the scoresheet.
Despite some departures in the summer, such as that of Keven Schlotterbeck, expectations are high in Augsburg. The team seems to be well-rehearsed and ready to maintain the strong form from the previous season and start the new season successfully.
In terms of personnel, there could be some changes compared to the cup game. In particular, the defence must be regrouped after the departure of Schlotterbeck. A back three with Brackelmann, Gouweleeuw and Matsima will probably play.
There are no major injury worries at the moment. Only the use of Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is questionable due to a toe injury. His absence would be a bitter loss and would shake up the defence again shortly before kick-off.
However, the offense around Michael Gregoritsch and Anton Kade is well rehearsed. Their cooperation already worked excellently in the cup, when Gregoritsch set up Kade’s first goal. This gives hope for a goal-rich start to the season.
Schalke Form Check
After a memorable season in the 2nd Bundesliga, Schalke has finally managed to get promoted again. The expectations of the fans are huge, and the clear goal for the coming season is to stay in the league in order to re-establish themselves in the top flight.
Schalke has so far held back on the transfer market. Coach Miron Muslic seems to trust in the core of the promotion team and does not want to confuse the team with too many new signings. Continuity is the motto for the miners.
In the DFB Cup, however, things were anything but smooth. The 5-2 victory against Hallescher FC sounds clear, but the underdog led for a long time and even forced Schalke into extra time. The game revealed clear defensive weaknesses for the Royal Blues.
Similar to Augsburg, Schalke coach Muslic will probably change his starting eleven in several positions compared to the cup game. There is even speculation about a change of system to a 3-4-2-1 in order to be more defensively stable than recently.
If this system change occurs, Moussa Sylla is likely to act as the sole striker. The player from Mali was one of the few bright spots on the part of the Schalke team in the cup match against Halle with a goal and an assist.
In terms of personnel, things are looking quite good at Schalke. Only Emil Höjlund is missing due to injury. Tomas Kalas, on the other hand, is not yet an option for the squad after his injury. Otherwise, Muslic can draw on the full range and field his best eleven.
