Great Britain Grand Prix at Silverstone, Sunday, 07.07.2024 at 16:00
The last race ended with a bang. Once again, it was Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who decided victory between themselves. After a botched pit stop and a final phase with less grip for Verstappen, Norris closed in on the Dutchman.
The current giants of the sport battled it out over several laps until there was finally a bang and both drivers suffered a puncture. The race was over for Norris, Verstappen saved fifth place and extended his lead in the championship over his closest rivals.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Norris is Verstappen’s number one chaser. Sergio Perez stumbles with the RB20 and Oscar Piastri is also unable to match Norris’ pace, especially in the race. Mercedes and Ferrari are some way behind.
This means that Sunday is likely to be another summit meeting between the two top-placed drivers in the championship. Winamax still has strong 1.55 odds for a top 2 finish for Norris, my Formula 1 GP Great Britain tip!
It was clear that Verstappen and Norris would come to blows at some point. Two alpha males with high ambitions and aggressive duel behavior and similarly fast cars, sooner or later it’s going to clash!
As in almost all the great duels the sport has ever seen. In Silverstone, for example, I remember a fantastic duel between Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel over several corners in 2014, but also the mega crash involving Verstappen, who was cleared by Lewis Hamilton in the fast corner and had to go to hospital as a result
The drivers are in awe of Silverstone. It’s only logical, as the drivers race through the corners here, sometimes at 300 km/h. The aerodynamically demanding circuit suits Red Bull, but McLaren is also competitive on every type of track.
However, the drivers in particular will make the difference in 2024. Both Norris and Verstappen have a clear grip on their team-mates, which makes the team-internal duel odds boring, but the placement bets de facto easier.
It’s clear to me that Norris will finish in the top two again, unless things go wrong again. But twice in a row? I can’t imagine that. I’m convinced that the two friendly drivers will initially be more cautious in the duels. The 1.55 for “Norris among the best two drivers” is top for me
What about the win odds? Verstappen is the favorite at 1.55, followed by Norris at 3.50 at Winamax, the betting provider where you can currently get free bets of 200 euros practically for free.
Your deposit will be doubled in the form of free bet credit, the promotion applies to new customer deposits of up to 200 euros. You can withdraw the winnings from the free bets directly, your deposit only needs to be wagered at 1.05 before it can also be withdrawn.
A promotion that is only available for the European Football Championship 2024, but can also be used for F1. I wouldn’t want to commit to Verstappen winning, despite the tempting odds on the man who has won seven races.
His RB20 is currently too inconsistent. In any case, I’m suspicious of how the team and car will develop without star designer Adrian Newey, who is already no longer involved in the Formula 1 project due to his departure after the season.
Red Bull has problems time and again. Especially at the start of a race weekend. This was the case again in Spielberg, when Verstappen had to park his car in practice. In the race, the problems with the otherwise reliable pit crew and the lack of grip from the second half of the race onwards.
Verstappen and Red Bull are more vulnerable than ever. Nevertheless, the drivers’ world championship title is almost out of their grasp. He has an 81-point lead over Norris, which means he can afford three retirements and would still be in first place.
The last 5 races at Silverstone Circuit:
Behind the top duo I see Mercedes again. The Silver Bulls have been stronger than Ferrari over the last few race weekends, the team that was the clear runner-up at the start of the season but is currently struggling with itself. Charles Leclerc even missed out on the points after a botched weekend.
George Russell, on the other hand, inherited victory after the Verstappen/Norris collision. Like Norris and team-mate Lewis Hamilton, he is desperate to finish on the podium at his home GP. A 1.75 is waiting for the duel victory against Hamilton, top odds in my eyes.
Although Hamilton has improved since the Mercedes with the new front wing is faster and more drivable, Russell is more consistent and currently makes the difference: 9:2 in qualifying, 8:2 in the race, but still a 1.75 for Russell at Bwin, worth seeing!
So far, I’m happy with my Formula 1 picks. Eight out of eleven odds were successful, and I gave you at least a 1.50 each time. Incidentally, Silverstone completes the triple-header.
In Spain, I had the right instinct with Verstappen and Norris in the top 2 and I followed up with the next odds winner in Spielberg with Nico Hülkenberg’s top 10 finish.
As the race will once again be held on an engine-heavy track, I think Hülkenberg has a good chance again. Alpine, one of his closest rivals for the top 10, are struggling with a performance deficit. The 2.00 for the “Hülkenberg points result” is worth considering!
Conclusion: In Spielberg, Norris and Verstappen didn’t say a word to each other after the race. The Formula 1 world sees a little more blame on Verstappen, who also received a ten-second penalty for the offense, but this had no effect on the final result.
Now it’s off to the land of Norris and Hamilton for Verstappen. It is clear that he is always more popular at other GP venues. Norris wants to go on the attack again with his powerful McLaren, preferably even bagging the home win.
Good for him: he has a car that works great on every circuit. Mercedes is still some way behind and Ferrari is stumbling. At the same time, Verstappen and Norris’ team-mates have no chance against the superstars, who also finished first and second at Silverstone last year.
That’s why my Formula 1 GP Great Britain betting tip is: Norris finishes the race in the top 2
