Hoffenheim – Dortmund Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 2 on Saturday, 05/09/2026 at 15:30 CET
My Hoffenheim Dortmund tip concerns the duel between two European Cup teams and at the same time the big highlight of the 2nd Bundesliga matchday. For both teams, it is an important test before the start of the international competitions.
My gut feeling tells me that things will go round in Sinsheim on Saturday! Dortmund scored over 1.5 goals at odds of 1.73 in the Bwin app. TSG looked very vulnerable defensively at the start of the season and conceded three goals against Cologne.
Incidentally, this bet is additionally underpinned by the bare numbers. In the 2025/26 pre-season, BVB scored more than one goal in 24 of 34 games. In addition, Dortmund have scored at least twice in three of the last five direct duels against Hoffenheim.
There is a lot at stake for both teams. Dortmund want to make the perfect start to the season after the win against HSV. A slip-up so early in the season would directly smash them without a small chance in the 2026/27 Bundesliga title race with Bayern.
Borussia can hardly afford to drop important points in the fight for the championship on Matchday 2 in Sinsheim. Just 72 hours after this game, BVB will also begin their Champions League adventure. A good performance against TSG is therefore essential!
Incidentally, the return of Maximilian Beier gives the game a special touch. The attacker made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga at TSG before moving to Dortmund. His return is eagerly awaited.
Hoffenheim – Dortmund Prediction & Betting Tips
For more interesting Hoffenheim Dortmund bets, I have taken a closer look at the offer of the bookmakers. Over 2.5 goals & both score to 1.62 caught my eye. Four of TSG’s last five home games against BVB have met these requirements.
TSG also scored an average of 2.06 goals per game at home last season. Dortmund, on the other hand, scored 1.76 goals away from home. These quite high values also suggest a high-scoring game, in which the respective keepers will be challenged throughout.
Incidentally, the bookmakers have set the Asian handicap line for over-goals at 3.25. This indicates that they expect at least four goals – and it is precisely in this range that the actual number of goals should be in the end!

Hoffenheim – Dortmund: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
Our AI adjutant provides data-based analysis for the game. Its memory cards calculate the chances of the different game outcomes. This helps me to identify the best betting markets and to better classify my own Hoffenheim Dortmund bets.
BVB’s chance of victory is put at 41.9% by Modell, while Hoffenheim comes at 35.3%. Last but not least, a draw is 22.7%. Borussia are therefore slight favourites, but TSG have a realistic chance of a home win.
The predicted goal numbers are particularly interesting. The AI tool expects 1.92 goals for Dortmund and 1.68 for Hoffenheim. The total number of 3.60 goals thus suggests an entertaining and high-scoring game.
Predicted chance of winning:
| Win Hoffenheim |
Draw |
Win Dortmund |
| 35.4% |
22.7% |
41.9% |
The computer-aided forecast of 1.92 theoretical goals for BVB supports my decision from the headline perfectly. The data clearly shows that the offense of the guests is strong enough to not let the bet Dortmund score over 1.5 goals go nowhere.
In view of Dortmund’s recent personnel concerns, however, a hedged bet could also make sense. Draw-no-bet: Dortmund at odds around 1.67 offers a good alternative.
Another data-based tip for more than fair odds of 1.75 is 2nd half: Over 1.5 goals. After all, no less than nine of BVB’s last ten away goals came after the break.
The best odds for Hoffenheim vs. Dortmund
A look at the Hoffenheim Dortmund odds shows that the bookmakers slightly favor the guests. This coincides with the assessment of our AI tool already discussed and the general expectations of us here in the editorial office!
However, TSG’s home strength should not be underestimated. Last season, they were the fifth-best home team in the league. The 2.90 odds on a home win could therefore have its appeal for risk-taking sports betting fans.
The high Hoffenheim Dortmund betting odds of around 4.00 for a draw are also remarkable. Historically, duels rarely end in a draw. (Only one of the last eleven meetings has ended this way.)
In summary, it can be said that a victory for Dortmund is the most likely result, but the tense personnel situation at BVB opens up opportunities for other outcomes. Real “value” may therefore be buried away from the pure 1X2 markets.
Hoffenheim vs Dortmund Match Analysis:
TSG did not cover themselves in glory at the start of the season and must improve from now on. A win against a top team like BVB would be an important sign before the imminent start of the Europa League season and would immediately silence critics.
However, Hoffenheim showed too little penetration against Cologne despite 58.6% possession, especially in the first half. Christian Ilzer’s team cannot afford such passivity against an opponent like Dortmund.
For Borussia, on the other hand, the victory would possibly be even more important! Three days later, Villarreal is waiting in the Champions League. A win in Sinsheim would provide the necessary momentum and meet the high expectations of the fans.
Dortmund’s style of play with high pressing and quick transition moments should deliberately expose the weaknesses in the Hoffenheim defence.
In any case, it can be assumed that BVB will create the higher quality scoring chances over the entire duration of the game due to its well-rehearsed formation and tactics.
TSG, on the other hand, have their home strength in finishing, having scored in 13 of their last 14 Bundesliga games in their own stadium.
The hosts are therefore absolutely capable of scoring a goal of their own on Saturday, but the defensive performance against the strong BVB attack is unlikely to be enough to win a point. In the end, the guests from North Rhine-Westphalia were just ahead.
Hoffenheim form check
The sovereign 4-0 victory in the DFB Cup against Aue proved to be deceptive for Hoffenheim. Many fans were optimistic about the start of the Bundesliga, but were bitterly disappointed in the 3-2 defeat against Cologne and brought back down to earth.
The first half against Cologne was particularly worrying. Despite 60% possession, coach Christian Ilzer’s team hardly created any scoring chances and only had an xG value of 0.20. That was simply too unimaginative.
It is obvious that the newly formed team still needs time. The new signings such as Nathan de Cat, Adam Daghim and Patrick Wimmer first have to find each other. The logical coordination problems were clearly visible against Cologne.
The new players have increased the quality in the squad, but the running routes and automatisms do not yet work as well as they did at the well-rehearsed BVB. It will probably take a few more weeks before the team harmonizes.
At least there is good news from the hospital. There are no new absences to complain about. Fisnik Asllani and Alexander Prass are about to return to team training and could soon be options again.
Coach Ilzer is expected to stick to the 4-4-2 system. However, personnel changes are likely. Jan-Niklas Lemperle could move into the attack for Tim-Driss Conte to provide more goal threat.
Dortmund Form Check
Dortmund have made a very solid impression so far and seem ready for another strong season. Even though it will be difficult again in the title race against Bayern, BVB is a clear Champions League candidate.
By the way: A strong start to the season like last week has become a tradition for Dortmund. In eleven of the last twelve seasons, BVB have celebrated an opening victory. The last defeat at the start was in 2014 under Jürgen Klopp. That shows the consistency of the club.
The results so far have been befitting of their status. A 2-0 win against Hamburger SV was followed by a commanding 5-0 win in the DFB Cup. Niko Kovac’s team is already in good form and has regained confidence.
A small advantage for TSG is BVB’s tighter schedule. Hoffenheim had three more days to prepare. This physical advantage could become noticeable and play a role in the course of the game.
The biggest problem for Dortmund, however, is the tense personnel situation. The injury list is long and prominent. This forces coach Kovac to make tactical adjustments and significantly limits his options.
The cruciate ligament rupture of new signing Giannis Konstantelias is particularly serious. In addition, Samuele Inacio is suspended. Kovac will therefore probably have to switch to a 3-4-2-1 system with Serhou Guirassy as the only striker.
