Bundesliga matchday 16, Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 15:30
Without points going into the winter break – that was probably not a peaceful, relaxed Christmas! In our 1st Bundesliga tips, not everyone was satisfied with their year 2024, in my Hoffenheim Wolfsburg betting tip, I’m now turning my attention to two teams who actually wanted more.
The home side in particular are facing an incredibly difficult second half of the season, as they currently occupy 15th place. Defensively, there are still big holes for the visitors from the Autostadt to exploit. Therefore, I say: Fire up for the bet “Over 2.5 goals” with “Both teams score”!
In this direct duel, one spectacle after another has come to light in recent years, so there are several reasons, both from a current and historical point of view, why I am reaching for such an offensive tip here.
Well, when two teams don’t cover themselves in glory when it comes to defending, it’s only logical that we’re likely to see a lot. For almost seven years, no club in the Bundesliga 1 has managed to keep a clean sheet in a direct duel.
My analysis will therefore focus on the direct comparison as well as everything that currently distinguishes both clubs. And both categories say the same thing: Boredom is unlikely to come to light here!
The bookmakers’ forecast?
It was not easy for our bookmakers to agree on a favorite here. If we go purely by the odds, TSG have the slight advantage. If you want to back Hoffenheim to win, you’ll be offered odds of 2.40.
Although the visitors from Wolfsburg look better in the table, they also lost twice before the winter break. Accordingly, the Wolves have to accept the role of underdogs at odds of 3.00.
Once Hoffenheim at home, once Wolfsburg away – you can see that when it comes to draws. In this respect, you have to think carefully about whether you want to bet on a draw at odds of 3.30.
KI prediction Hoffenheim vs Wolfsburg: ChatGPT
This kick-off to the new year 2025 in the 1st Bundesliga is of course also something very special for ChatGPT. For the match between Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim, the AI has three hot theses, just like you know it from 2024.
If you want to take a high risk, you can do so with a result bet. In this case, a 2:2 is suggested. Possible? Definitely! Both stand for many (counter) goals, and the direct duels can also be very spectacular. Therefore: I support this bet
The bet, which carries a medium risk, sees Andrej Kramaric as the scorer. Since the Hoffenheim player has already scored six goals against Wolves, I can very well imagine that he will score.
Will they both score? The bookmakers definitely think so, because this low-risk bet doesn’t even make it to 1.50. And since I’m betting on the combination of “Both teams to score” and “Over 2.5 goals”, this tip naturally gets my full approval.
Analysis: Hoffenheim vs Wolfsburg
It’s been a tough year for 1899 Hoffenheim, which ended a few weeks ago. A year in which continuity simply refused to return, one that ended just above the line.
Unfortunately, the change of coach did not bear fruit either, with Christian Ilzer not having the desired effect. Baden have only won three games and are in 15th place, four points ahead of 16th place
The first matchday saw a 3:2 win against Holstein Kiel, a 3:1 win against Bochum on the seventh and a 4:3 win against RB Leipzig on the eleventh. Many goals, almost as many goals conceded, were the other results achieved in the same way?
TSG failed to score four times. The curiosity: The opponents were Augsburg, Mainz, Bochum and Heidenheim – three of the four are considered direct rivals in the relegation battle! Augsburg and Heidenheim were also the only two teams Hoffenheim kept a clean sheet against.
Rating Analysis
On the one hand, it’s easy to suggest top bets for this clash, but since so much can happen, it’s also quite tricky. As VfL have been trailing at the break for three games, you could go for a home win after 45 minutes. The odds climb to 2.95.
At the same time, I think that the second 45 minutes offer more goals than the first. Since matchday five, TSG have only scored more goals in the first half once. LeoVegas is offering odds of 1.93 for this bet.
This tip also leads me to believe that both teams will net in the second half. Not a bad bet, because with odds of 2.50 there is a great chance of winning.
Hoffenheim vs. Wolfsburg: The defensive lines in focus
Both of Hoffenheim’s one-nil games came away from home, so at home it always strikes in their own box. I can see parallels to the previous season, because: in 2023/24, they didn’t manage to get away without conceding a goal at home once!
So the problems in defense are simply not being solved, even if I can at least praise the fact that all three wins this season have come at home.
VfL Wolfsburg is somehow not a real favorite opponent either. They have won one of their last five encounters and only suffered a clear 3-0 defeat in the DFB Cup at the beginning of December.

Wolfsburg in crisis?
It was the first time since September 2016 that Hoffenheim failed to score against Wolfsburg. 14 times more than 2.5 goals in the last 15 games, only twice no “both teams score” since that September 2016, this pairing has it all.
Nevertheless, it is interesting to note that TSG have won three of their last four home games against Wolves. History alone is therefore no help here, as VfL know how quickly a good run can come to an end.
After a very mixed start to the season with just two wins from the first nine rounds (only Bochum and Kiel, the two relegation candidates, were beaten), the team went into a real frenzy.
3:1 against Heidenheim, 1:0 against Union Berlin, 5:1 against RB Leipzig, 4:3 against Mainz and advancing in the DFB Cup – the Lower Saxons suddenly managed almost everything. The upward trend was finally halted in the 3-2 defeat to Freiburg.
The team faced BVB before the winter break. Despite Dortmund’s horrendous away record, there was nothing to be gained. Three goals conceded in a row? Of course, defensive fans can’t like that.
We’ve kept three clean sheets this season, and with Union Berlin, St. Pauli and Kiel, I have to say that top clubs weren’t among them. On the other hand, Wolfsburg haven’t had any major problems away from home.
The only losses were in Freiburg (2:3) and Leverkusen (3:4 in the last second). Strangely, only once were the 1.5 goals scored away from home not exceeded, and that was in the 0-0 draw against St. Pauli. So would a corresponding bet be advisable?
Absolutely, if you sign up at Bet365 and bet on the Wolves scoring at least twice on Saturday, you can look forward to odds of 2.10, definitely not a bad value.
My Hoffenheim Wolfsburg tip:
Both sides did not go into the winter break with positive impressions, so it is all the more important to bounce back successfully now. Hoffenheim are worried that they won’t make it out of the relegation battle – mainly for defensive reasons.
TSG are conceding far too many goals, so it’s a good thing that the Wolves aren’t exactly solid either. Fittingly, history has shown me that these two clubs can really let the chips fall where they may.
So the bottom line is that I can’t imagine that this will be a boring match. So my betting tip is:
If both score over 2.5 goals
