Bundesliga matchday 16, Saturday, 11.01.2025 at 15:30
A bottom team on a mission to save the game – an incredibly difficult second half awaits! VfL Bochum don’t have it easy in our 1st Bundesliga tips, the slight upward trend that emerged before Christmas should of course continue in my Mainz Bochum betting tip.
However, the visitors will of course know that the 05ers have had a fabulous first half of the season, beating Bayern and Frankfurt before the winter break. And since VfL have picked up a single point away from home, my bet is more or less self-evident: There’s nothing to be gained for Bochum!
So a home win is right at the top of my favorites. In addition to Mainz’s current strong stats, there are also some points in their history that directly underline this thesis at first glance.
The visitors are doing really well in the table, but the top section is also really hard-fought. And yet: judging by the current picture, a top team is receiving the bottom team, which must entail corresponding odds.
What makes Mainz so strong, what should Bochum fear, how does history come into play? In my analysis, I will go into all the important facts that should ultimately prove why all three points will ultimately go to the “carnival club”.
The prediction of the bookmakers?
Mainz have won five of their last six games, with only the crazy 3:4 in Wolfsburg (and that very late) failing to score. In this respect, it is only logical that they are the favorites for Saturday, with the odds averaging 1.55.
Bochum have just one point away from home and have won just once in Mainz. These two reasons are probably enough to explain why a three-pointer at the weekend has odds of 5.30.
A draw wouldn’t really help anyone. Mainz have only shared the points against Bochum twice in the 1st Bundesliga, so this bet, which is rewarded with odds of 4.20, is not a good idea…
KI prediction Mainz vs Bochum: ChatGPT
The AI no longer has much confidence in VfL Bochum after the weak first half of the season (which, strictly speaking, is not yet over). It’s therefore interesting to see what ChatGPT tells me about the upcoming match.
If you want to place a risky bet, you’re in the right place with a result tip. I’m suggesting a 2:0 here. As Bochum have only scored 13 goals and 05 have scored zero in three of their last four league home games against VfL, I think this bet is quite realistic.
However, the medium-risk suggestion means that it will be close, at least in the first half. A draw after 45 minutes? Since Mainz have always taken a half-time lead in six games, I would be a little more cautious here.
How many goals will the favorite score? You can go with the low-risk bet and say: At least two! Since that has always been the case for the last six games, I can quickly give my approval here.
Analysis: Mainz vs Bochum
Pity that there is a winter break in the 1st Bundesliga. It’s a shame that the strong rhythm had to be interrupted. It’s a shame that the fans had to do without this great soccer for three weeks!
For those who think like 1. FSV Mainz 05, this shortened first half of the season was something very special. But didn’t they only win two of their first nine games and only against Kiel and Augsburg, two of the relegation candidates?
This statement cannot be denied, but the team then went into a real frenzy. 3:1 against Dortmund, 3:0 against Kiel, 2:0 against Hoffenheim, 2:1 against Bayern and 3:1 against Frankfurt? What results!
If it hadn’t been for the late goal against Wolfsburg in between, the 3:4 wouldn’t have happened and the 05ers might even have made it six wins in a row. In the table, they are now part of the big group fighting for third place.
Rating Analysis
I already mentioned it: Mainz are currently so strong that they set the course before the break. With six leads at the break, it’s clear that you can bet on exactly that on Saturday, and this bet will definitely pay off with odds of 2.10.
In five of these six matches, Mainz scored twice in the first half. At Betano, exactly this tip, the “Over 1.5 goals”, will bring you a terrific 3.90. If that’s too high for you, you can also simply say: Mainz will score at least once in the first 45 minutes. The value now jumps to 1.65.
If you register at Bet365, you also have the option of betting on Jonathan Burkardt to score. The attacker is fit again and is the most dangerous man in his team. If he scores against Bochum, the odds are 2.25.
Mainz vs. Bochum: The Reds still in the flow?
16 goals from the last six games? I really can’t blame the offense at all. It’s also interesting to note that when we win, it’s always by at least two goals – five times it’s been exactly three.
A good keyword to register with Oddset. If you bet on Mainz scoring “over 2.5 goals”, you’re in with a really good chance with odds of 2.70 – the AI has already suggested “over 1.5 goals”.
I’ve also already mentioned the Reds’ strength in the first half. It took until November before they could win at home for the first time – but now the team has three wins in a row!
How will Bochum hold up?
A small blemish is that they only managed to play to nil in the 2-0 win against Hoffenheim. Just a few days ago, the fans liked the fact that the 05ers impressed in a test match.
The opponent: Frankfurt. The result: another 3:1! The second half of the season can obviously begin, and the best personnel news I can report is that Jonathan Burkardt will be back. He has to, because the suspended Nadiem Amiri has to be replaced somehow.
Since the summer of 2001, Mainz have lost exactly once against Bochum in the Bundesliga (including the lower house), which the visitors won’t like to hear. However, VfL would do well not to put too much stock in their history.
With six points, they are bottom of the table, four points behind the relegation places. And yet, a very slight upward trend could be observed before the winter break.
After the 1:1 against Union Berlin, the fans celebrated a 2:0 against Heidenheim, the first win of the season! It was also a premiere of the defensive kind, as a clean sheet was finally achieved.
Now the Blues must somehow manage to win away from home. That is generally difficult for them. They have just one point to their name, which came from the recent 1-1 draw against Union.
As much as Bochum were delighted with the four points, we must of course also point out that they have been beaten by Union Berlin and Heidenheim: Union Berlin and Heidenheim were two clubs that have been deep in crisis for a long time.
VfL also conceded at least two goals in four of their seven away defeats. The only time they scored more than one goal was in Frankfurt – and that was completely irrelevant in the 2:7 defeat.
Incidentally, the most recent 2-0 win against Heidenheim was marred by Koji Miyoshi’s sending off. The midfielder left the field early and will consequently not be able to take part on Saturday.
My Mainz Bochum tip:
New year, old luck! Mainz will be hoping to build on their strong performances at the weekend. Lots of goals, even more points, strong first halves, even top teams have been outplayed in succession.
If you win against Bayern, Dortmund and Frankfurt, surely you can also win against bottom-placed Bochum? Admittedly, I have found little that could not underline this statement.
The visitors have only scored one negative point away from home, and in my opinion the most recent four points were mainly because their opponents were completely rattled. I have therefore decided on the following tip:
Mainz beats Bochum!
