Tennis today – Matches from 30.08.

At the start of the first round I have several US Open tips in store today. I’ll give you my personal prediction for each game. We won’t see any Germans in the men’s singles before tomorrow, but Medvedev against Gaston consoles me for that.
Tennis tips today – 30.08.2026: Round 1 in New York!

US Open Tips today 30.08.: Medvedev – Gaston (19:30)
Medvedev leads 1-0 so far (Paris Masters 2021). But let’s forget the past, let’s look at the present. Gaston is a born tormentor on the court. The little Frenchman incessantly intersperses stops, varies the lengths and simply tries to rob the opponent of his nerve.
This is exactly where the Russian’s chance for outbursts of anger lies, because Medvedev hates nothing more than when you completely break up his rhythm on the baseline. However, the Frenchman falls short in the long run via best-of-five on hard New York asphalt.
Medvedev has had a mediocre preparation, but the gigantic reach and the flat whips from the baseline suck the air out of Gaston’s lungs in the course of the match.
My tip: 3:0 if Medvedev anticipates the stop traps correctly!
US Open betting tonight: Lehecka – Carreno Busta (17:00)
The Spaniard wet Lehecka in three sets at the French Open this year, but the first duel a few months earlier on hard court in Dubai clearly went to the Czech.
This is exactly where the dog is buried. Carreno Busta is a strong fighter, but on the fast US Open courts, Lehecka simply has more punch with his groundstrokes.
The momentum speaks for the number 18 seed: If Lehecka hits his first serve consistently, he hits the Spaniard exactly over the tempo and doesn’t let Carreno Busta even get into the clay court mill rhythm.
My tip: The surface plays massively into Lehecka’s hands!
US Open today: Prizmic – Shevchenko (17:00)
Prizmic hasn’t had it easy in the last few weeks! But what the 21-year-old Croatian works off on the baseline on a good day borders on attrition tactics: brutal footwork, hardly any unpressed mistakes and a length in the strokes that drives every opponent to despair.
Shevchenko may have the more experienced arm and more punching power, but his error rate on hard court always spikes upwards under high pressure.
When Prizmic drags out the rallies and tests Shevchenko’s patience on the backhand, the match tips over. Shevchenko will try to keep the rallies ultra-short, but on the US Open courts, the Croatian is currently digging out almost every ball.
My tip: Shevchenko won’t really test Prizmic!
US Open prediction today: Wong – Paul (18:30)
What makes this match really exciting is the height of the fall. On the one side is the 22-year-old youngster Wong from Hong Kong, who fought his way through the three qualifying rounds with brutal self-confidence.
He has literally already warmed up the cement in the Louis Armstrong Stadium. On the other side lurks Tommy Paul – the number 20 seed has the US spectators behind him and puts on an insanely aggressive, variable net game.
Anyone who thinks that Paul can sort it out in passing is misjudging Wong’s serving strength. The qualifier has been extremely reliable in collecting free points over the first serve in recent weeks.
However, when Paul puts pressure on Wong’s second serve with his usual poisonous returns, the youngster starts swimming. Nevertheless, it was not to be a smooth 3-0.
My tip: Wong grabs a set!
US Open betting today 30.08.: Munar – Atmane (19:00)
Atmane shoots his way through the qualifying and Masters rounds in the US summer with absurd service pressure, but completely loses the thread when an opponent manages to stand up to him!
Munar, on the other hand, stands for absolute clay court tennis of the old school – disgusting in the return game, tactically disciplined, but once again underpowered on fast New York concrete today, when the Frenchman hammers the ball wildly into the corners from the start.
Atmane regulates this via the raw power, as long as the arm holds. But after a strong first set, he could run out of strength at the back.
My tip: In the end, it’s a fifty-fifty match!
US Open tips tonight: Samuel – Machac (19:00)
The 23-year-old Samuel celebrates his main draw debut at major level after a strong qualification. Samuel comes out of the qualifiers extremely hot and serves on the fast New York concrete with a lot of free point potential.
But Machac is a completely different story. The Czech has already proven this year how brutally flat and fast he distributes his groundstrokes when he is in rhythm.
His backhand down the line literally burns holes in the opponent’s defense on cement. Samuel has never played against a man from the top 60 in the professional circus and will pant early on with Machac’s high baseline pace.
If the Czech doesn’t hand out gifts on his own serve and his fitness cooperates, then he may march through smoothly.
My tip: The only underdog bet that I place with confidence!
