Copa America, quarter-finals, Saturday, 06.07.2024 at 03:00
As with the 2024 European Championship, the Copa America is now entering the hot phase. The first knockout matches are coming up.
One of them will take place on Friday night. Venezuela and Canada will face each other in Arlington Texas.
It has to be said that both nations, but especially Vinotinto, have deservedly won their respective groups
In a complicated group with Mexico and Ecuador, among others, they were able to confidently top the table with three wins.
The Canucks, on the other hand, got the maximum out of their group. Argentina, the defending champions, were the clear favorites. Nevertheless, they came second.
However, my Venezuela Canada tip assumes that the North Americans’ journey in the Copa America will now be over
The prediction of the bookmakers?
K.O. games always have their own special charm. It is likely to be tactical and wait and see. One action can decide the game.
Accordingly, the bookmakers in the Venezuela Canada odds are struggling to come up with a clear favorite.
Top bookmakers such as Betway are only predicting odds of around 2.70 should Vinotinto prevail in regulation time
Analysis: Venezuela vs Canada
That would suit coach Fernando’s squad. Especially after the turbulent tournament three years ago, it would be balm for the soul.
Back then, the Venezuelan national team competed with a skeleton squad due to coronavirus.
In the end, they only picked up two points. Now Vinotinto are back in the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2019 Copa America
This is Les Rouges’ first Copa ever and their first appearance in the quarter-finals. They have already achieved more than they expected.
They had two unpleasant opponents in their group, Chile and Peru. But only against top favorites Argentina did they fail to keep a clean sheet.
The Canadians’ defense has been an important building block at this tournament. Will that be the case again this time?
Quota analysis
If we at least look at the goal bets for the Venezuela Canada betting tip, the Oddset bookmakers are not expecting a festival of chances.
The forecast for a game with more than two goals is well over 2.00. Even for a game with goals on both sides in regular time, the odds are only around 2.00.
Offensively, however, I think Vinotinto can do a bit better. Unlike the Canucks, they haven’t scored just one goal in the three games so far.
Interestingly, the Batista team have scored all six of their goals in the second half. So there is a good chance that they will score late again.
Before kick-off, you can find odds of around 1.90 with the best bookmakers if they score in the second half.
Are Vinotinto still on the upswing?
After the botched Copa America 2021, Jose Pekerman was supposed to be the great savior of Venezuelan soccer.
But it didn’t really work out that way; under him, they finished bottom of their group in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Fernando Batista took over in March 2023. Since then, they have won eight of their 15 international matches and only lost twice. One of the defeats came against Italy in March of this year.
Now the tournament tree presents a historic opportunity. They are slightly favored ahead of this quarter-final and would presumably face Argentina in the next round.
Will Canada benefit from the sending-off again?
The fact that the Canucks are now in the last eight is a small to medium-sized surprise given the competition.
As surprising as it was against Chile and Peru, they did relatively little offensively. Especially against these two teams.
The Canadians were outnumbered for long periods in both games. In the final group game against Chile even since the 27th minute!
But in the second half in particular, they hardly had any chances worth mentioning. Going forward, Davies, David & Co. have to really stretch themselves
As far as direct comparisons between Venezuela and Canada are concerned, there have been very few matches between the two nations.
The last comparison dates back to 2010, when they drew 1-1 with a certain Tomas Rincon in the starting eleven
The veteran has only played a supporting role in this Copa America so far. Yangel Herrera and Jose Martinez are now pulling the strings in midfield.
But perhaps Rincon can help Vinotinto win his first international match against the Canucks. Because there was also a 2-2 draw in 2007
My tip:
It’s not completely out of the question that the game will be tied again after 90 minutes. Nobody will want to make the first mistake here.
I see the Canucks as weaker in terms of possession. If you take Alphonso Davies out of the game, there’s little going forward. It’s different with the opposition.
Since they are more creative offensively, my Venezuela Canada tip is: The Vinotinto will prevail!
