West Ham – Liverpool betting tip, prediction & odds 29.12.2024

Premier League, Sunday, 29.12.2024 at 18:15

The last Premier League matchday of the 2024 calendar year could bring another surprise! If not, then the Reds could soon be on their way to celebrating their first league title in the post-Klopp era.

In my West Ham Liverpool prediction, I’m focusing less on the outcome of the game and more on a single player. Mohamed Salah is not only the terror of all opposing fans, but especially of the “Hammers”.

West Ham United continued their positive development and celebrated a narrow 1-0 win at Southampton on Boxing Day. They have now gone four matchdays unbeaten (2 wins, 2 draws).

Julen Lopetegui’s team also kept a clean sheet for the first time in over a month – despite the absence of Łukasz Fabiański before the break. A chance to finally record two league wins in a row again – the last time they managed that was in March (!).

The team looks more and more stable, which is mainly due to an improved defense that is much more compact. The team is also proving more efficient offensively, which is hugely important at this stage of the season.

The Reds are an opponent that traditionally causes WHU problems: The Londoners have only won one of their last 18 head-to-head duels (3 draws, 14 defeats).

Nevertheless, their strong form at home gives cause for hope. In the last six home games, they have only lost once (3 wins, 2 draws). The draw last season also points to another respectable result.

The fans will therefore be hoping that home strength can once again make the difference against a top team like Liverpool – at least to achieve a respectable result. How effectively West Ham take their few chances will be crucial.

Personally, I’m torn, as there are good arguments for and against a surprise at the London Stadium.

What certainly plays into West Ham’s hands: Szoboszlai is suspended!

No matter which side you take: Goals should be at a premium at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Liverpool have scored two or more goals in the second half in six of their last eight league games. This impressive attacking prowess after the break shows just how dangerous they can be until the final minute.

And who better to bet on for goals in this encounter than Mohamed Salah? Liverpool’s superstar has been directly involved in an impressive 15 goals in just 16 competitive games against the Hammers (12 goals, 3 assists).

Salah often shows his class at the London Stadium in particular: seven goals in seven games (5 goals, 2 assists) underline why he is one of the most feared attackers in the league.

His individual quality could also make the difference in this game.

However, it’s not just Salah’s excellent record against West Ham that tempts me to place a goal bet. In particular, the outstanding form the Egyptian is currently in makes my betting decision easier.

Mohamed Salah has already been directly involved in an impressive 27 goals in 17 games this Premier League season (16 goals, 11 assists) – just a single goal less than in 32 appearances last season (18 goals, 10 assists).

West Ham, by the way, are showing statistically demonstrable surprise potential this late in the season. They have won two of their last three league games in the calendar year (one defeat), including a 2-0 win over Arsenal in 2023.

This potential could also give them a surprise this season if they can continue their winning record. This is precisely why I prefer to stay away from a classic West Ham Liverpool tip of the “1X2” form on Sunday.

Conclusion: The last game of the calendar year is always a tricky one and Liverpool really struggled against Leicester a few days ago.

But one player who never lets the Reds down is Mohamed Salah, who not only scored against the Foxes but also seems to be the nightmare incarnate of all West Ham United fans.

Nevertheless, I doubt that the league leaders’ upcoming visit to London will necessarily end in a win.
