Bundesliga Matchday 34, Saturday, 05/17/2025, 3:30 p.m.
Both Augsburg and Union are figuratively stranded in no man’s land in the overall standings on the last matchday of the Bundesliga season – without any real worries, but also without any major goals.
The Fuggerstadt club in particular are likely to be a little annoyed: international competition was within reach at one point, but a lack of consistency brought the dream to an abrupt end.
For me, it looks like it will be a relaxed game with few chances on goal. In line with my Augsburg Union Berlin prediction, I therefore expect a low-scoring game in which both teams take a rather relaxed approach to the end of the season.
Union Berlin definitely has a better chance of picking up points than Augsburg, given the current form of the two teams.
Augsburg is actually the only team in the league to have lost each of its last three Bundesliga matches, which is a clear warning sign.
What makes this particularly bitter is that, prior to this three-game losing streak, FCA had only failed to score once in its previous 14 league games (7 wins, 6 draws). That’s what I call a drop in performance.
The betting odds?
The Augsburg Union Berlin odds from various German bookmakers suggest an exciting duel between two evenly matched teams: An FCA home win is rated at 2.05 on average, which indicates that they are slight favorites.
An away win for the “Iron Ones” is rated at around 3.65, so they definitely have a chance.
Anyone looking at the Augsburg Union Berlin odds will quickly realize that this is going to be a hard-fought game with a completely open outcome.
AI prediction Augsburg vs Union Berlin: ChatGPT’s prediction
For the last time this season, ChatGPT has given me three suggestions with different risk levels. And what can I say – its Augsburg Union Berlin AI prediction speaks from my heart!
“Union to win” may seem risky to some, but with odds of around 3.65 and the lack of offensive ideas that the Fuggerstadt team has shown in recent weeks, it’s certainly not impossible.
I can also get behind the suggestion that there will be fewer than 2.5 goals. In fact, I think there will be fewer than three goals in Augsburg on Saturday, and the hosts may even fail to score at all.
“Double chance X2” at 1.70 is ultimately the safer option than the first suggestion.
Nevertheless, I have to say that the odds of at least 1.70 are quite respectable – especially since they allow you to cover the two most likely outcomes of the game equally.
Analysis: Augsburg vs Union Berlin
In my opinion, there are more exciting questions to answer this weekend than who will come out on top in the match between Augsburg and Union Berlin.
For example, who will win the ESC 2025? After all, everyone is talking about the biggest international music festival of the year.
Back to my Augsburg Union Berlin prediction: The match promises to be uneventful because both teams seem to have switched to offseason mode weeks ago.
Augsburg, for example, has dropped points in recent games against Leverkusen (0-2), Kiel (1-3), and Stuttgart (0-4) and can hardly remember what it feels like to celebrate a goal.
Union, on the other hand, looks a little more solid. The 0-3 defeat against Heidenheim a week ago was their first defeat since the 0-1 loss to newly promoted Kiel at the beginning of March.
Odds analysis
Eight of the 11 Bundesliga matches between Augsburg and Union have produced fewer than 2.5 goals. It goes without saying that I want to play a very similar scenario in my favorite sports betting app.
Incidentally, “Under 3.5 goals” guarantees you average odds of 1.53, which can increase to up to 2.65 if you also select “Double Chance X2” as an additional condition – a great combination bet in my opinion.
Augsburg vs. Union Berlin: Soon to be winless against FCA for double digits?
My betting buddy Oliver, whom you know from our Bundesliga YouTube predictions, knows better than anyone how difficult it is for his favorite team to play against FCA.
Statistically speaking, FCA is something of a bogey team for Union: the Fuggerstadt club has lost only one of its last eleven Bundesliga matches against Union (6 wins, 4 draws) – and currently no other team in the top flight has waited longer for a win against Augsburg than the Iron Men.
Let that sink in for a moment: Union have gone nine games in a row without a win against FCA, their second-longest losing streak in the Bundesliga – only against FC Bayern have they waited longer for three points (12 games).
Incidentally, FC Augsburg are going into the final game of the season clearly weakened: Samuel Essende is suspended after being sent off for the second time this season on the last matchday – only Leipzig’s Willi Orban shared this dubious feat in the 2024/25 season.
His absence will be keenly felt: only Alexis Claude-Maurice (9 goals) has scored more often for the Fuggerstadt club than Essende (7).
This means that FCA are not only missing a dangerous attacking player, but also a physically imposing target man who could have caused the Union defense a lot of problems.
Union fans love the 34th Bundesliga matchday!
The last game of the season for 1. FC Union Berlin is looking particularly promising.
After all, the Iron Ones have been victorious on every last matchday of their first five years in the top flight, making them the only team in German Bundesliga history to finish their first five seasons with three points.
In 2024/25, they will play their last game on the 34th matchday away from home for the first time, rather than in their familiar stadium at the Alte Försterei.
In addition, the Berliners are unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga away games (two wins, two draws) – equaling their previous club record for the longest away run in a single season.
Union previously achieved this only at the start of the 2020/21 season, when they also remained unbeaten in their first four away games. So the conditions are ideal for FCU to pick up some points in their last away game of the season.
My Augsburg Union Berlin tip: FCA will score less than 1.5 goals!
Don’t expect too much from this game – Augsburg against Union Berlin promises to be a tough battle rather than a footballing feast. Both teams are known for playing it safe rather than taking risks.
Offensively, it will probably be a tough affair with little room for highlights. However, Union could invest a little more: after their bitter defeat against Heidenheim, they will want to go into the summer break with a positive result.
But there isn’t much pressure on either team anymore – you can tell that.
That’s why my Augsburg Union Berlin tip is: FCA under 1.5 goals.
