Borussia Dortmund summer schedule 2026: When does pre-season begin?
Borussia Dortmund’s preparations for the new season begin on Sunday, 12 July, during the 2026 World Cup. As usual, it starts with performance diagnostics. The official start of training is scheduled for 14 July on the BVB 2026 summer schedule.
However, due to the participation of numerous domestic and foreign national team players in the World Cup, head coach Niko Kovac will not yet have the entire squad available for the start of training.
All BVB Summer Test Matches 2026
A total of five test matches are noted on the BVB summer timetable 2026. The first will take place just four days after the start of training.
The first BVB friendly in the summer of 2026 will take place on Saturday, 18 July. Borussia Dortmund will be away to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. The game starts at 17:00.
A week later, on July 25 at 1:00 p.m., the second of the Dortmund summer friendlies will take place. Fortuna Düsseldorf is the opponent for this pre-season game.
The next day on 26 July – regardless of whether the match takes place or not – the next date on the BVB 2026 summer schedule is scheduled: the departure to Asia. Borussia Dortmund are on a training camp and PR tour in Japan until 2 August.
Two international BVB friendlies on the Asia trip
As part of the week-long trip to Asia, two BVB friendlies are on the agenda.
The first Dortmund friendly is scheduled for July 29 (Wednesday) in Osaka against Cerezo Osaka. The game starts at 12:00 p.m. German time. The second of the two BVB friendlies in Japan in 2026 will take place three days later on 1 August (12:00 CEST) against FC Tokyo.
The following day against it, the BVB entourage will return home for the final preparation for the new 2026/27 season.
Two more Borussia Dortmund friendlies are scheduled for mid-August – both against international opponents. The first of these will take place on Sunday, August 9 against Arsenal in London. The game against last season’s Champions League finalists starts at 15:00 German time.
Six days later, AS Roma will be guests at the official season opening at Signal Iduna Park. The last of a total of five BVB friendlies this summer will take place on 15 August at 17:30 CET.

When is the first competitive match date on the BVB 2026 summer schedule?
Borussia Dortmund will play their first competitive match of the new season on 22 August in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at Signal Iduna Park against Baern München, last season’s double winners. Kick-off at 20:30 CET, SAT.1 and Sky will broadcast the game live.
A week later, BVB will start in the Bundesliga. On matchday 1, 29 August, the home game against Hamburger SV is scheduled.
