A French title will be awarded – in the desert of Qatar! Admittedly, the venue is highly controversial, but for Paris St. Germain and AS Monaco, it’s a case of taking it sportingly on Sunday and crowning themselves champions.
The last time the two teams met was just before the winter break, and the game was a tough one with a total of six goals.
In my PSG Monaco betting tip, I’ll tell you why I’m sticking with the Ligue 1 leaders again this time and say: This one will be won in regular time!
PSG are the reigning champions and cup winners – and as we all know, you can’t play against yourself! The starting eleven from the capital will therefore face the runners-up on Sunday, and they come from Monaco.
The French Super Cup is now organized in such a way that it is played before the start of the second half of the season, far away from home in Qatar. You can like that, but you don’t have to.
Well, PSG have been competing in this competition year after year since 2013. The result: ten titles, only one lost final! Only in 2021 did they fail to win the title, losing 1-0 to Lille.
Paris have also met Monaco twice in the Super Cup, in 2017 and 2018. The results: 2:1 and 4:0. Not a bad omen, then, and as luck would have it, the two teams met for the last time right before the winter break.
The score was 2:2 for a long time, but the stars from the capital struck decisively on 83 and 90+7 minutes. Not a matter of course, because with two wins from the last six games, AS is certainly not a real favorite opponent.
4:2, 0:0, 5:2, 1:3? No, the last four encounters could not have ended more differently. But enough of the history, let’s take a look at how PSG had been doing before the break.
The Parisians haven’t even lost yet, and their tally of twelve wins and four draws naturally puts them in first place. Their lead over Marseille is already ten points.
The 44 goals they have scored are commendable – despite the fact that, following the departure of Kylian Mbappe, there is no longer a striker who scores like a conveyor belt. Does it make any difference that PSG have scored three of their four draws away from home?
I should probably mention it, as the Super Cup is definitely being played away from home. It should also be mentioned at this point that Gianluigi Donnarumma is unlikely to be ready for action again, having suffered a serious facial injury before the winter break.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that PSG are clearly ahead on Sunday according to our PayPal bookmakers. The average odds are 1.65 to 5.10, probably also due to the recent 4:2.
As Monaco know: The Supercup? It’s not necessarily our favorite competition! The Monegasques have played in it seven times, taking home the trophy just twice, in 1997 and 2000 – that was a long time ago!
The last time the principality side triumphed, players like John Arne Riise and Costinha were on the pitch. Since that win, AS have only made two appearances, both of which were defeats to PSG.
Adi Hütter’s men had actually got off to a great start in the league, with six wins and a draw to take them to the top. Since then, however, things just haven’t really gone their way.
Three wins from the last nine games is far too few to be able to play at the very top. The team simply lacks consistency, whether 2-0, 0-0, 2-4 or 0-2, you have to expect almost any result.
The fact that they have failed to win against Marseille, PSG, Nice and Lille in recent weeks shows that top teams are not what Monaco are really good at!
What significance does the Super Cup have? It varies slightly from country to country, with the French competition now being held in Doha. Paris and Monaco face each other, you would probably have known who is in better form even without my analysis.
The Monegasques are no longer running smoothly, sometimes it’s more the offense, then again more the defense. Another important factor could be that the players have hardly any experience of the Super Cup.
PSG, on the other hand, have shown their ice-cold, ripped-off side here for years. That’s also one of the main reasons why I say:
Paris win against Monaco!
